1. Never skip breakfast.
Skipping meals always hinders weight loss; it can slow your metabolism and often you more than make up for it later in the day.
2. Sit down to eat.
Are you always eating on the run? Forcing yourself to sit down to eat will make you think twice about what you are going to put in your mouth and also give you more time to enjoy it!
3. Banish mindless eating.
Nibbling or snacking while reading, working or watching TV is one of the main reasons for overeating. Concentrate on your food and savour every mouthful.
4. Watch your portions.
Every little bit counts. Try opting for a small coffee rather than a jumbo one at your favourite cafe and, if eating out, share a dessert.
5. Planning is key.
Always have an easy, healthy option in the freezer for those nights when you come home too tired to cook. If you’re heading out for the day carry a snack like and apple or a small handful of nuts in your bag.
6. Out of sight, out of mind.
Keep temptation foods out of the house or in opaque containers at the back of the cupboard /fridge. Often, just the sight of food will trigger appetite!
7. You don’t always have to clear you plate.
Are you eating when you are no longer hungry just because the food is there? Listen to your body when you are eating and stop to ask yourself “Am I full yet?” Learning to listen to these satiety cues is key to weight loss success.
8. Boost you vegetable intake.
Aim for half your plate at lunch and dinner to be vegetables. Vegetables are low in kilojoules but high in fibre and nutrients, keeping you fuller.
9. Be prepared for setbacks.
Try not to fall apart if you have had a bad day. Pick yourself up and make better choices the next day.
