Artius to launch stepped care for Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN
14 September 2017
Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN has announced that Queensland-based provider, Artius, will be rolling out the new stepped care model for primary mental health services within the region. Artius has been named the preferred provider for the region and is looking forward to improving mental health within the community.
Artius Managing Director, Mr. Paul Stokes, said “Artius Health is extremely proud to be announced as the preferred provider to deliver Integrated Mental Health Services for Central Queensland Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast PHN region. Artius Health will act as a centralised intake and triage service and partner with local providers to deliver a Stepped Care Approach for mental health services in the region. This will enable us to assist over 10,000 people per annum.”
“Artius Health will open new offices in Rockhampton and Bundaberg and work with existing providers to deliver:
- Psychological services (formerly known as ATAPS+1 program); and
- Develop new services building on existing services to operate across the spectrum of need for people with mental health services, including:
- Low Intensity Psychology Services
- Severe and Complex Mental Health Services – Assertive Outreach services
- Aftercare Suicide Prevention Services”
The 2016/17 financial year will see $16 million invested by the Government into the primary mental health funding for Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN. The PHN said “The announcement comes this week as the PHN concludes a competitive tender process, which was open to all mental health service providers nationally. Artius was identified as the preferred provider by an expert evaluation panel and contract negotiations are underway with services expected to commence in early 2018”.
Mental health in Australia is changing direction with a greater focus in local regions on ensuring that client services better meet client needs. This new system is called “Stepped Care”. Clients are matched to a service that most meets their current needs. This can range from the least intensive (Low Intensity Services for people experiencing mild mental health problems) to the most intensive (High Intensity Services for people with severe and persistent mental health issues).
PHN CEO, Mrs Pattie Hudson, said “We look forward to working with Artius to introduce this important component of Australian Government’s Mental Health Reforms and we are confident that the dedicated team from Artius will be able to progress the PHN’s commitment to providing the right care, in the right place at the right time.“
